The English rugby league club Salford City Reds, has just cut themselves a deal with Betfred. Betfred operates an online sports book, casino, bingo, poker, lotto and mobile gambling site, as well as a high street retail sports book business. Salford City Reds were founded in 1873 and they currently play in the Super League. This is top-notch professional rugby football league club competition which features twelve teams in total, from the UK, from Wales and from France.
Fred Done is cofounder (with his brother) and who the company is named after; their very first establishment was a single bookmakers shop in Ordsall, Salford, established in 1967. He is notorious for losing £1 million to bookmaking and online casino competitor Victor Chandler. They placed a bet on Manchester United against Chelsea, man U lost, Victor Chandler won! Fred Done is obviously a massive Man United fan as he made history when he paid out early to punters on a Premier Manchester United win over Arsenal. They move next year to Barton-upon-Irwell and the new fifteen thousand capacity City of Salford Stadium.
Fred Done said he was proud of this sponsorship and the fact that it is taking place in the Salford Red's 110th year, because he is proud to be from Salford, as well as have his name on their shed. He also said that it would be an emotional departure from Willows Stadium, but that he was impressed with the new stadium and what John Wilkinson has planned for the rugby league club in the future. John Wilkinson was also dead chuffed to have the Betfred brand on the Shed for the final season, and believes this is a fitting tribute.
Betfred sponsors the Haydock Park Racecourse which includes an on-course betting shop, and they are the backer for the Group 1 Betfred Sprint Cup in September. They sponsor races at Kempton Park and looking to another fast four-legged animal; they are the main benefactors at both Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield and Nottingham Greyhound Stadium.
As we were saying earlier, the footie gets tons of sponsorship and Fred Done is a Manchester fan; Betfred is also the Wembley National Stadium official betting partner; recently extended for another 4 years. Just to balance out their rather busy marketing department, Betfred.com is the current sponsor of the World Snooker Championship. |
